back and busy

busy with report writing!
and the ICSID Exhibition 2009, in which my company is co-organising and exhibiting in.

the main concept of the exhibition is about collecting dreams, so we invited our guests at the booth to share their dreams with us. they wrote down their dreams on a speech bubble that we provided and took a picture with their dreams.

i quit my job...

...the ending of one journey marks the beginning of  another

i haven't found a job yet but meanwhile i am indulging in a few pet projects, among them include baking my friend a wedding cake! Yummy carrot cake with cream cheese frosting garnished with yummy berries...

and the cupcakes too...

This totally zapped my energy for the past 2 weeks. But the good reviews made it feel so rewarding. With my friend, we intend to make it into a business. I really hope it can take off, so I shamelessly ask for my dear friends who read my blog to consider our baking services for any future occassions and also help me spread the word. We should be baking more often and I would bring samples for you, if possible, the next time we meet!

spring is here!

did you realise the UNIQLOCK on the sidebar is different? yes Spring is here! it's warmer, sunnier and happier! 

though here in Singapore we are feeling it a bit differently - more showers and humidity.

i have been clearing the balance of my 2009 annual leave, having given an order to clear all by end Feb (of course, there's no room for encashing the leave now in the recession).

i went swimming and jogging, i went shopping, i went for a massage and a hair cut! 

i watched tv at 11am :) 

i discovered this program on discovery travel and living channel and i'm hooked!

some say the children are being exploited but as a supporter for the show, i must say the parents did a good job to provide a condusive environment and taught them to love one another well! 

i must admit that i've always been the kind of sister who will hit my brother back when he smacked me with his toys. (Oops...:P)

and their childhood seems especially fun! who gets special invitations to snowboarding trips? who gets to go to Sesame place and get personal treatment from Big Bird and Elmo? bet those trips to the special places were part of a marketing strategy but who cares! 

oh well... guess there's only so much i can do in the limited free time i have! *and i even have to do some work too!

come monday, it's back to the place-that-shall-not-be-named to clear my backlog :(

the girls were so sweet they played along with my fear of height.

i had one of my best weekends in singapore since i started working.

had a good rest at home on saturday.
had a surprise birthday celebration on sunday: was kidnapped to Graze and then went to play the luge at sentosa. evening was SATC the movie! oh how lovely it was... i love my friends, yes ALL of YOU out there...

time for some updates:

i apologise for the lack of entries. quite alot has happened in the past month. so, what have i done?

- travelled to shanghai. not my favourite city, but i think i need to go back again to explore more on foot. stayed too much in pudong, where the exhibition centre was. as much as i'll like to see the local wholesale markets, i'll never get enough of uniqlos and h&ms.

- completed 10km standard chartered run. managed to reach my target - not stopping. clocked timing 1h20mins. motivated to 'upgrade' to half marathon next yr! haha.. for now, at least... one of my new year resolutions

- had my second company d&d. didn't win any prizes (damn...) but it was more enjoyable than last yr's, especially since i'm in the organising committee. it was held at the beautiful mandai orchid garden, a break away from the city. it stopped raining just in time for us to explore the garden. lightning at night caused a little interuption to our program as it fused some circuit somewhere but we had a good emcee who tided it over very well.

btw i'll be going to the land of h&m for work next week 14-19dec. hope i'll have time to do some xmas shopping over there. if not, maybe someone lucky may get a jar of (melted) snow for present?

Tokyo...

in less than 2 weeks!!! Been doing alot of reading up on the city lately. I only have around 3 days on my own, so I need to be clear on what I want to do there. Have decided to seek out the cool stuff and good food as my primary objective, and the traditional parks perhaps secondary - will visit but won't spend too much time there. No disneyland :(


For Tokyo, the most complicated part seemed to be the railway navigation. Have seriously studied the different maps and lines to find out where I should exactly stay. I actually like to read maps and memorise station names!

This is the first time I'm going to travel alone. At the preparation stage, i've already found it more troublesome and expensive to travel alone - e.g. it's cheaper to share a double room than taking a single room myself. But still, I'm really excited! Hmmm... so what should I wear....??? which luggage should I take....

finally!

time has come for some overseas travel. planning a short trip to yokoso!japan for some work and play, and another 2 trips for incredible india (mumbai for work and north india, personal) at the end of the year.

doing some research for the japan trip now. i will have 3 days on my own, which i have to find a place to stay for. struggling between nice japanese style room and cheap hostel dorms. am also considering THIS:

At the Capsule Inn Akihabara, a separate capsule unit is available for
each guest, as a sleeping space. Each room has blinds to be drawn for
complete privacy. In the capsule unit, amenities like a TV, radio, alarm
clock and adjustable lighting are provided. You can control all these
devices in a sleeping position, as if you were in a cockpit of an aircraft,
or spacecraft.

I have thought it might be cheaper to stay in these capsules, considering how much space it actually saves. But no, it costs the same, if not more pricey, than staying in the budget hostel dorms. For an experience likened to the spacecraft, hmmmm, why not? Wonder what kind of people i can meet there.....

i watched the national day parade live

for the first time in my life. my mom entered my name to the channel 8 morning program 'zao an ni hao' ndp ticket lucky draw and i was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets. since my parents had already gone for an earlier preview, i went together with my brother. i must say he behaved really well (hah, as if he's still a kid), but it has been some time since we enjoyed each other's company. it was a really good show, except that the crowd control is really tight, and we spent alot of time to get in and get out. Here are some of the highlights of the show:

Quelf is a very FUN game! it's almost a dumb version of Cranium. instead of intelligent questions and tasks, players do stupid actions and play silly games like flying paper aeroplane. good to play especially after drinks.

Taste fine Japanese cuisine at Wacha, this quaint little shophouse along Ann Siang Rd. Walk up from URA/Maxwell market and turn left. Look out for the shops on the LHS, and you should see it before the turn. It is opposite Front Row. The food is delicate and the presentation is very interesting. Don't expect sushi. It's more like home-cooked food. Should try the Basket of Appetisers, Green Tea Fried Rice (Comes with delicious miso soup!), Japanese Pancake (it's very nice! you can see the lao ban niang making it on the pan and smell it getting grilled. strawberry and redbean can actually go well together under these pancakes! ) and Sesame ice cream (a surprisingly yummy flavour). I think my entry doesn't do it justice. Do check out chubbyhubby's review.

There are not too many customers and the courtyard seats are usually available. The courtyard is an area enclosed by translucent sheeting so we could actually still bask in the sunlight without feeling too warm as the place is kept air-conditioned. It is an ideal place to chill in the afternoon.

Warning: Food come in small portions. Good for tea time. You may like to hit the Maxwell market for a full dinner later in the evening.

I'm so lazy to search for music nowadays. Either I stream online playlists or play the internet radio. But luckily got zhi tong dao he friends with similar taste in music!

Pris gave me some good music today. Check out Feist. Mushaboom is my favourite! Inside and Out is cool too.

Wy also passed me another good song. Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. I think the group just won some grammys with this song.
