tom's palette

at the shaw tower has some kick-ass gelato. the service is damn good too. besides offering us the different flavours at the counter for tasting, the owner even brought out their experimental-stage-flavour for us to try! the flavours are really quite exciting - think lime wasabi. there are also local flavours like teh, horlicks, which in my opinion, taste better than the ones at island creamery. you can combine 2 flavours in a small cup (actually it's equivalent to the mid-size at venezia) at $2.80.

another ice cream place which i tried with my colleagues is the raffles creamery, at the raffles hotel. easily hidden from where the main human traffic is, we located it only after asking the hotel staff. at around $5 per scoop, it's not cheap, but each scoop comes with a generous helping of condiments/topping (the selection includes macadamia nuts, which i think justifies the cost already!). Service is good for tai-tais having their afternoon teas there, but not so efficient for the working people who may need to rush back to office for a meeting after lunch. period.

btw my colleagues are really a bunch of foodie, and i've always loved their value-for-money and tasty recommendations! they are usually good alternatives to those cafes and restaurants that sell more ambience than food.
