just watched the film roman holiday by audrey hepburn and gregory peck. and i am so sad! because the film didn't end quite exactly how i have expected it to.
they fell in love, they parted. it burst my bubble. as the film took a long shot at mr bradley walking out of the hallway, i was hoping that princess ann will run coming out to hug him one more time. but she didn't. that's it. the end. it will just be "a memory that she will remember til the end of her life".
so sad.
how can a film that started so dreamily end on such a resigned-to-life note? in contrast, films today like princess' diary, cinderella story and taiwan/korean drama serials are more dreamy and end happily ever after. do they reflect the desire of girls/women of our time, in the absence of the perfect relationship/man, turn to chick flicks for comfort and consolation? or are females getting more pro-active in fighting for their love?
